In September of 2011, there was a horrific forest fire in the area around Bastrop, TX. Millions of dollars worth of property and thousands of acres were destroyed. Among the victims of the fire was the Word of Life Community Church, which sat in the woods about 4 miles east of Bastrop. Located immediately beside the church was the home of Pastors Mike and Debbie Vega, whose house was also destroyed. Volunteers from the First United Methodist Church in Bryan, TX and the Rock Church Ministries from Plaistow, came together on February 25, 2012, to rebuild the home of Pastors Mike and Debbie Vega.
