Helping Homeless Families

— Family Promise of Greater Rockingham County, Inc., known as the Interfaith Hospitality Network, is about helping homeless families in Salem, Derry, and twelve surrounding towns (Atkinson, Hampstead, Windham, Pelham, Auburn, Chester, Kingston, Sandown, Londonderry, Danville, and Plaistow). The number of homeless families in this area numbers at least 155 as of May 2011. The program will take in 3-5 families, up to fourteen individuals, at a time. Each host congregation hosts homeless families for one week at a time, 4-5 times per year. The host congregation sets up sleeping areas in Sunday School classrooms just for that week, and provides breakfast, a bag lunch, dinner, and overnight stay each day of that week. Family Promise is building community and strengthening lives. For more information, call 898-6040 or go online to www.familypromisegrc.org. Explaining the new program at a booth during Hampstead Lions Farmers Market at Stage Road Junction each Saturday, are, from left, Greta McElvanna and Karen Groves of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
