Zukas Named 'Volunteer of Excellence'

Affectionately called “Mr. Bob” by the girls in his Girl Scout troop, known for its adventuresome spirit, Zukas has been a leader for many years, and then led a community of Girl Scout leaders and troops. Currently he’s a mentor for new leaders.Robert Zukas of Plaistow was named a Volunteer of Excellence at the Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony of Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains on November 3 at the Fireside Inn.

The Volunteer of Excellence Award is a Girl Scout Community-level award recognizing volunteers who have performed beyond the expectations of their position and have supported the Council’s mission-delivery goals.

Zukas has played a significant role in supporting volunteers and in creating an effective team in his community. He’s a strong advocate for the Girl Scout Movement and leadership for girls. “Bob has been influential in motivating and coaching volunteers in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, and is always mindful of keeping the girls’ interest first,” one nomination said.

This year, Zukas’s participation on the annual weekend for volunteers committee helped to revitalize the event. He was instrumental in creating a fun and relaxing weekend for all who attended. “He models selfless service, inspires others and epitomizes service above self,” the award task group said at the ceremony.
