In its March, 2013 publication, Provider Magazine, the national publication of the American Health Care Association, recognized Colonial Poplin/Poplin Way Co-Owner/Administrator, Jeff Philbrick, as one of the twenty health care professionals who are on the rise and worthy of watching. Philbrick was praised for his devotion both to Colonial Poplin and Poplin Way and to the residents and staff. Recognized as a leader in the health care industry, Philbrick credits his mother with teaching him that the foundation of a strong, rewarding business is people – residents, family and staff. With a home-like environment, minimal staff turnover and excellent standards of care, both Colonial Poplin and Poplin Way are reflections of Philbrick’s strong values and the success he has achieved in the health care industry.

The Governor and Executive Council met on April 17 in the Executive Council Chamber at the State House, Concord, and considered an agenda of approximately 110 items. The Following individuals from District 3 were nominated by Governor Hassan to serve on Boards and Commissions: Lorraine Stuart Merrill, Stratham, as Commissioner of the Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food; and Debra S. Grabowski, Raymond, to the Health Services Planning and Review Board.

People’s United Bank recently introduced a mobile check deposit feature to its mobile banking services. Retail banking customers can now deposit checks just by snapping a photo of the front and back of the endorsed check and using a free smartphone app to deposit it. The free service allows iPhone and Android smartphone users to log in to their account using the People’s United Mobile App, select “Deposit” and follow the simple steps to complete the deposit. The apps are available at Apple’s iTunes store or the Google Play store.

  • Citizen of the Year

    The Atkinson Lions Club is pleased to announce that Martin (Marty) Feuer, pictured, has been chosen as the Atkinson Citizen of the Year for 2014. Marty has been an active member of the community since 1951 having been a firefighter for many years and served on the Timberlane School Board. He was the former owner of Feuer Lumber Company, and has passed the torch (and the business) to his son John Feuer. Marty is a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving as a Glider Pilot and was shot down September 19, 1944 over Rethy, Belgium, and fought in the Normandy invasion. He has been married to his wife Eleanor, for more than 66 years and will celebrate his 93rd birthday on May 3. Please join the Feuer family and the Atkinson Lions to celebrate on Sun., May 4, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Atkinson Congregational Church.

    The Granite State South Board of REALTOR®s Affiliates Raise Money for Veterans’ Charities. On March 4th, the GSSBR Affiliates Committee presented the Liberty House with a check for over $3,000 raised from the successfully sold out event GSSBR, Love and Laughter Comedy Night for Veterans’ Charities. The event was held on January 24th at the Atkinson Country Club.     Sandown, NH — Jo Ann (Phelps) Hughes of Sandown, New Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by all of her children at home. She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
