PLAISTOW —Thanks to our Friends of the Library at Plaistow (FLAP), the library has a new museum pass available to the Boston Children’s Museum! Patrons of the PPL may reserve the pass online or at the library and pick up at the library within three days of use. Each pass admits a maximum of four people into the museum for half-price admission per person; the cost of admission is $14.00 per adult and children ages 1-17; babies 0-12 months are admitted free. The coupon is dated and only valid on the date printed. Visit or ask at the library for more information. The Friends’ next meeting is Mon., October 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the library—all are welcome to attend and learn more about the Friends. Volunteers are currently needed to help prepare for their annual Vendor Fair to be held Sat., November 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Visit the Friends tab on our website to learn more about this vibrant, dedicated group.

October 14-20 is Teen Read Week. Teen Read week is a time to celebrate reading for fun and encourage teens to read in all forms: books and magazines, eBooks, audiobooks and more, and become regular library users. To welcome teens to the library this week, a $20.00 Barnes and Noble gift card will be awarded to the most accurate guess of how many candy corns are in the jelly jar on the Youth circulation desk. Our library has a diverse and ever-growing collection of young adult literature: bring your teen to the library this week to show what the library has to offer!

Teen and adult history and literature lovers may also enjoy An Evening with Deborah J. Swiss on Wed., October 17 at 6:00 p.m. We follow up our discussion of her book, The Tin Ticket: The Heroic Journey of Australia's Convict Women including an author interview for broadcast on Plaistow Access show Scrybes, a live musical performance by Digney Fignus of “All for Love,” a song inspired by the convict women (many of whom were teens when they were deported—considered to be adults at age 12,) and audience Q&A and Book Signing.. It will be filmed for Plaistow Access and aired on channels 17 and 23. Refreshments will be provided by the library. This event is free and open to the public. Attend whether or not you’ve read the book for an interesting and fun evening. Please register in advance at
