FREMONT – The Forest Society and the Fremont Conservation Commission are hosting a dedication ceremony, followed by a walk in the woods event, on Sat., October 13. The event will start with a coffee and donut reception at 10:00 a.m., in front of the Glen Oakes Town Forest kiosk at the end of Andreski Drive, in Fremont. The reception will be followed by a brief ceremony recognizing the efforts and partnerships that resulted in the acquisition and conservation of the Smith brother’s property, a 76 acre parcel of land abutting the northern border of the Glen Oakes Town Forest.
The dedication ceremony will be followed by an autumn walk in the woods to visit the property. Two of the Forest Society’s Land Agents, Mike Speltz and Chris Borg (a top-notch birder), will join the walk led by Dennis Howland, Chair of Fremont Open Space Committee and avid hiker of the property. The walk in the woods is expected to last until noon with the option of returning earlier with Pat deBeer, a member of the Fremont Conservation Commission.
With fall foliage near its peak, the event promises to offer a very special introduction to this spectacular woodland and the adjoining wetland known as Spruce Swamp.
The public is cordially invited to attend.
