ATKINSON - Halloween promises to be a big event this year for the Atkinson Historical Society. On Sat., October 26, the society welcomes you and your family (all ages) to a morning of historic outdoor fun! The group will meet at the Kimball House, 3 Academy Avenue, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon, to register and pick up your clues for the family friendly scavenger hunt in the Atkinson Old Cemetery. You will be entered in a raffle to win a gift bag of Halloween treats and/or a History of Atkinson. There will be snacks and crafts and you will be able to tour the Museum and learn about the town. This event is in partnership with Atkinson Academy.
Then, on Mon., October 28, at the Kimball Library, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Glenn Knoblock will present a program on New Hampshire Cemeteries and Gravestones. You will learn about long-forgotten stories of historical events in the neighborhood, such as the Great Awakening, and the American Revolution, from the rubbings, photographs and slides of gravestones. You will learn about a gravestone’s works of art and the craftsmen who carved them. This program is from a grant by the NH Humanities Council. Refreshments will be served.
All are welcome.
