Readers Needed

PORTSMOUTH — United Way of the Greater Seacoast is recruiting volunteers for its K-Ready Reader program.

Created in partnership with local early childhood education and care providers, the program trains dedicated volunteers to work with young children in Rockingham and Strafford Counties, and Kittery, Maine.

Readers commit to one hour every week (or every other week) for at least four months. Volunteers are trained to read to preschoolers using techniques that effectively build pre-literacy skills. Prospective volunteers will be asked to complete a New Hampshire criminal background check.

Visit www.uwgs.org/kreadyreaders to apply by September 11. Volunteers need to attend one of two trainings held on September 17 and September 20.
