EXETER — Do you have shoes in your closet that you no longer wear? Core Podiatry is currently collecting donations of gently worn shoes for people in need through the Soles4Souls program.
You can drop off your gently worn shoes at Core Podiatry, 21 Hampton Road, Building 1 in Exeter, until January 19. The local podiatry office will then send the shoes to Soles4Souls, a program that provides shoes to people in need every nine seconds.
This is the third year that Core Podiatry has taken part in the Soles4Souls program. Core Physicians’ podiatrist James Dolan, DPM, heard about the program from his wife and soon the entire Core Podiatry office was involved with the cause. The annual event has spread to local high school students who volunteer community service hours to help the office pack and ship the shoes.
“This charity is a win- win,” said Dr. Dolan. :You unclutter your closet and someone in the world who needs help gets a new pair of shoes,”
The Soles4Souls program distributes shoes to a person in need, whether they are victims of a natural disaster or subject to living in extreme poverty. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 5.5 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes to people in over 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States. It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unused shoes in their closets.
