---- — SANDOWN — The Town of Sandown will observe Memorial Day with a parade and service on Mon., May 27. The parade will start at the Sandown Depot and proceed to the Cemetery behind the library. This year, Lieutenant Colonel(retired) Kevin Major, will recall the loss of a local hero who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War. LTC(ret) Major will present his story, during a service in the Center Cemetery.
All military veterans that attend the service will be recognized during a special time in the ceremony.
Come and spend some time honoring our military men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice.
The parade line-up is at 11:30 a.m. at the Sandown Depot (a couple hundred yards north of the Town Hall on Main Street). The parade will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m. and proceed south on Main Street (Rt. 121A) and come to a brief halt at the War Monument on the Town Hall lawn. At the War Monument, all children are encouraged to place tokens of their appreciation (flowers, flags, pictures, etc.) to Sandown’s War veterans. The parade will then continue south on Main Street and into the Center Cemetery where a Memorial Service will be held. Limited shaded seating will be available in the cemetery.
All local organizations, political officials, veterans, etc. are encouraged to march. All children are invited to march in the parade. Decorate your bicycle, wagon, or just dress up in red, white and blue. Parents, please encourage your children to participate in the parade by carrying wreaths, flowers. drawings, flags, etc…that may be placed at the War Monument on the town hall lawn during the parade.
The Timberlane High School Marching Band will provide music for the event.
