Canoe Race

EPPING — The Epping Lions Club is hosting the Lamprey River Canoe Race for the fourth year in a row. The annual race is being held on Sat., April 27 this year, and starts at Mary Blair Park on Rt. 27 and ends at Rt. 87, just after the Amethyst House.

The morning race is approximately 7.3 miles. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the race begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. Categories for this race are: Male Solo, Female Solo, and two-person. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place finishers in each category. A top prize will also be awarded for Best Costume!

The afternoon race is approximately three miles and is non-competitive. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and the race begins at 12:00 p.m. The race ends behind Epping Town Hall.

There will be coffee and donuts available (for a small fee) at the Park before the morning race and there will be hotdogs/chips/water available (for a small fee) at the finish line after the morning race. Race t-shirts will be available for sale. And as always, entrants will receive a free sticker upon registration, on race day.

According to Club President Pam Tibbetts, “Money raised will allow our Club to meet pressing needs in the community. Lions members thank everyone who contributes to this important work and make a difference in our community.”

All the money raised from this event, stays in Epping to help residents in need of vision care or hear- ing assistance. The Epping Lions Club has been helping residents since their inception as a club in April of 2009. They also have advised residents from other communities in their search for vision care.

    LAWRENCE — Marie Rose (Robidoux) Audy, passed away at her home surrounded by her family, after suffering a stroke in April. She was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of the late Rose A. (Betit) and Alfred Robidoux, originally of Quebec, Canada. She was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Armand Joseph Audy, who passed away on June 28, 1976.

    Bar Harbor, ME — Francis M. Lurvey passed away Sunday, June 22, in Bar Harbor, Maine, after battling cancer. By his side were his sons, Edwin Lurvey and Steven Lurvey and his niece and husband, Debra and Richard Carey, as well as cousin, Marion McDonald. He was the son of Edwin R Lurvey (Bar Harbor) and Delia Amazeen (Dexter). He is survived by five children, a stepson, and their families. His sons, Edwin and wife April, Steven and wife, Pam, David and his daughter, Meghan, as well as his daughters, Lorraine and Ellen and her husband, Paul DiScipio with daughters, Katherine and Julia, and his stepson, Brian Faulkner and wife, Jody with children, Trevor, Rachel, and Keith. He is also survived by his sister, Sheryl, and many nieces and nephews including Frank Lurvey and Elaine Langer. Francis was predeceased by his twin brother, Frank, as well as his brothers, Edwin and Erwin. He was also predeceased by his longtime companion, Brian and Edwin’s mother, Maureen Faulkner and former wife, Roberta Lurvey Gilmore.
