5K Run/Walk

NEWTON —Newton Memorial School PTO will hold their third annual Memorial School 5K Run or Walk and Fun Run on Sat., September 21. This family community event is open to everyone!

Enjoy the loop course through rolling country roads of Newton. Start and Finish at the school (31 West Main Street in Newton). Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., Fun Run at 9:30, Walkers at 10:00 a.m. and Runners at 10:30 a.m. Professional timing will be provided by 3C Race Productions.

Come enjoy Carnival Games, Face Painting, Bouncy House, Food, Raffle prizes, Demo’s from Zumba (Wendy Takeisan), GBC (Gymnastics at Brentwood Commons), Ultimate Cheer of Newton, Empower Martial Arts of Newton, and Chang’s Tae Kwon Do America of Haverhill, MA.

Vendor tables are available for $25.00. Come out and promote your business while enjoy seeing all your friends and neighbors.

Online Registration is available at g2racereg.com or you can send checks payable to Memorial PTO C/O Amie LaRochelle/LeMay 5K Race Director, 31 West Main Street, Newton NH 03858. The cost is $15.00 (Before September 15), $20.00 (Day of the Race or after September 15). There is no Entry fee for the Fun Run (Ages 3-11). A free T-shirt will be awarded to the first 100 Registered Adult Participants. All proceeds are to benefit the Newton Memorial School PTO, raising money to enrich your child’s school experience.

Newton Town Day will be participating during the event. They will be welcoming zoo creatures, music by Three Play, and Smokey the bear. A chili and Apple dessert contest will be happening along with a children’s pie eating contest (more details to follow). They have also coordinated other family friendly activities provided by the town departments and organizations.

  • Citizen of the Year

    The Atkinson Lions Club is pleased to announce that Martin (Marty) Feuer, pictured, has been chosen as the Atkinson Citizen of the Year for 2014. Marty has been an active member of the community since 1951 having been a firefighter for many years and served on the Timberlane School Board. He was the former owner of Feuer Lumber Company, and has passed the torch (and the business) to his son John Feuer. Marty is a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving as a Glider Pilot and was shot down September 19, 1944 over Rethy, Belgium, and fought in the Normandy invasion. He has been married to his wife Eleanor, for more than 66 years and will celebrate his 93rd birthday on May 3. Please join the Feuer family and the Atkinson Lions to celebrate on Sun., May 4, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Atkinson Congregational Church.

    Meredith, NH — Elwood (Al) Shaw, 93, of Center Harbor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Forestview Manor in Meredith. He was the beloved husband of the late Greta L. (Sykes) Shaw, to whom he was married for 62 years.

    Sandown, NH — Jo Ann (Phelps) Hughes of Sandown, New Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by all of her children at home. She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
