---- — PORTSMOUTH — The Seacoast Jazz Appreciation Project, an initiative of the Seacoast Jazz Society, will present the sister act of jazz violinist Sara Caswell and vocalist Rachel Caswell in a session scheduled for Sun., May 19, 4:30 p.m., at The Press Room, 77 Daniel Street, Portsmouth. The event will feature a performance by the Caswell Sisters and, importantly, an open dialog between the artists and the audience. This is a free event.
Their appearance at The Press Room will conclude the sisters’ New England tour, with jazz audiences turning out to appreciate what critics have called their “seamless sound combined with a unique interpretation of their repertoire.” Their sound is the culmination of years of working together, honing their jazz skills on material drawn from the “Great American Songbook” and the contemporary jazz canon, along with their own compositions.
The Caswell Sisters have performed with some of today’s top jazz artists at leading jazz venues including Dizzy’s Club Cola.
The Seacoast Jazz Appreciation Project was launched in 2009 with an objective of enhancing the appreciation of jazz for listeners at all levels of musical sophistication, while de-mystifying this uniquely American musical genre for its newest listeners. It’s a chance to “hang” with some outstanding jazz musicians, to hear their music, and about their music, in a casual environment.
