Story Swap

RYE - Marni Gillard, Schenectady, NY, will be the featured storyteller at the 9th Annual Granite State Story Swap on Sat., May 4, at the Seacoast Science Center, Odiorne State Park in Rye.

Gillard, who discovered storytelling while teaching middle school English in Niskayuna, NY, will speak on “Dissolving Barriers, Building Communities.” She believes that “through stories we see ourselves as if in a mirror.” Her web site is http://www.marnigillard.com

Granite State Story Swap has been held on the first Saturday in May since 2005. It draws storytellers, librarians, educators and story lovers throughout New England to share their own stories in two story swap sessions and to hear the stories of others in story concerts of three minute and ten minute tales.

NH tellers Michael Lang and Shawn Middleton, both of Durham, and Steve Wood, Claremont, will be on the program, along with Massachusetts tellers, Jacob Bloom, Arlington; Lynn K. Schweikart, Boston; Elisa Pearmain, Concord; June-Ruth Canonico; North Chelmsford, and Alden “Joe” Doolittle from Scotia, NY.

The event is produced by the NH Storytelling Alliance. The cost is $16.00, which includes the parking fee, morning coffee, lunch, and all of the concerts and story swaps.
