Volunteer Drivers Needed

DERRY - Volunteer Drivers from the towns of Hampstead, Danville, and Sandown, are needed for local residents. “If you have two days a month to drive a fellow community member to a local appointment, we want to hear from you,” said Cindee Tanuma, the executive director of Community Caregivers of Greater Derry. Cindee explains that people are under the assumption that becoming a volunteer driver is more of a commitment than it really is. For every new driver, they can help three new members from the community. Most drives are within a ten mile radius but they also need folks that are not afraid to drive into Boston or the seacoast occasionally.

Community Caregivers of Greater Derry, through a volunteer network, assist the elderly and disabled with services such as friendly visiting, grocery shopping, light chores, home repair and maintenance, and medical transportation. Services offered through Caregivers are vitally important as they allow individuals to maintain independence in the community and home environment. All services are free of charge.

They also have many other specific volunteer opportunities available at the moment for folks of all ages. Please visit their website for a complete list of opportunities www.comcaregivers.org. They are now scheduling day and nighttime trainings for this month. What a perfect season to start giving back.

For more information about Caregiver’s services, donating to the program, their free loaner’s closet for durable medical equipment or special events, please call Cindee at Caregivers, 603-432-0877.
