Old Fashioned Thanksgiving

Carriage Towne News

---- — DANVILLE - The members of the Union Church invite families to attend its special Thanksgiving service on Wednesday evening, November 21, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. The evening service will be a combined celebration by the Union Church and the Epping Community Church. The highlight of the evening will be the performance of the “Ringing of the Hand bells”. Refreshments will be served at the old one room White School House after the service.

Throughout the last one hundred and fifty years, families living in communities around the town of Danville have congregated in this old church at the beginning of this holiday season by stepping through the doors of this old church. Sit in the pews of the original pew owners, read their names, listen to the music of the historic 1855 pipe organ, feel the warm atmosphere of a small village church and see the church’s interior as it was designed in 1850 and renovated in 1892.

The Union Church in “North Danville” was dedicated in the fall of 1850. The planning for this church had begun four years earlier in 1846 by a few men who felt the need to have a meeting place for worship in the area known as North Danville. A building committee was formed, the land was purchased, shares were sold, and families purchased pews.

The Union Church is on Beach Plain Road, just off Route 111 A, in the north end of Danville. The interdenominational service is open to the public and all are most welcome to enjoy this special night. Make Thanksgiving a memorable family gathering. If you have questions or need directions, please call Betsy Sanders at 642-5070. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
