'One Book, One Town'

---- — KENSINGTON — The Kensington Elementary School (KES) is launching its community wide project, “One Book, One Town” which is a nationwide program founded to promote literacy and a sense of community by asking all town residents to read one book and discuss it with friends, families and neighbors.

The Kensington Elementary School would like to draw upon the diversity and talent residing in the town and share that spirit of community with the children. The book selected for this exciting event is “Have You Filled a Bucket Today: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids” by Carol McCloud. The award winning book focuses on the importance of kindness and emphasizes the importance of being “a bucket filler”, who is a person that says and does kind acts to all people and by doing so receives happiness and fulfillment in return.

This project began on November 20, at KES, during “Friends and Family Day” with the introduction of the book and the goals of the project. We want to be a school community that strives to be a “bucket filling school” focusing on thoughtfulness, kind acts and a strong sense of community. The project will be funded by the generous donation that the Kensington residents made to the school when the Stanley Cup visited Kensington.

All residents interested in joining the events can find copies of the book at the Kensington Public Library beginning in mid-November. The three month event will culminate on Fri., February 22, as the school celebrates “Read Across America Day”, and all members of the community will be invited and encouraged to participate in the festivities.

The mission of the Kensington Elementary School is to work together with families and community members to provide a safe learning environment that fosters academic, emotional, social and physical growth for all students.
