BRENTWOOD —The award-winning Pontine Theatre of Portsmouth will bring its current touring program to the Brentwood Historical Society Museum on Sun., June 29, at 2:00 p.m. The presentation is titled “Isles of Shoals: Eternal Sound of the Sea.”
Marguerite Matthews and Greg Gathers, the principal actors, will appear as Celia Thaxter and Nathaniel Hawthorne, basing their script on writings by both authors. Part of the unique Pontine style is to alternate traditional spoken sections of the script with narrated episodes using projected images and shadow puppets and a Victorian tabletop theater. Watching these episodes along with the spoken literary passages, the audience will hear the familiar stories of The Wreck of the Sagunto, Blackbeard’s Bride, The Murder at Smuttynose, Hawthorne’s Character Sketches of the Shoalers, and Thaxter’s History of the Isles of Shoals.
The Historical Society Museum is located at 140 Crawley Falls Road, Brentwood. The Pontine program will be admission free, presented with support from the Barbara Northrup Memorial Fund. The public is welcome and urged to attend. For more information, call Alma Vahey, president, at 679-8635, or visit www.brentwoodnhhistory.org.
