Middle School Dance

PLAISTOW - The Knights of Columbus of Plaistow/Atkinson/ Newton/Kingston will hold their 7th Middle School Dance of the school year for children in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades on Fri., March 15. The Knights have been running these dances for well over 20 years.

The dance is open to all children in these grades regardless of their school district. The dance is held at St Luke’s Church Hall (formerly Holy Angels) on Rte 121, near the Haverhill/Atkinson line. The dance runs from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. The admission cost is $5.00. Tickets are sold inside the Hall starting at 6:35 p.m. The children are expected to show up in proper attire (school type rules apply). There is a concession stand with cold drinks and snacks available. There will also be a number of prizes given out.

The dance is well chaperoned with 20+ adults and there is also a policeman on duty inside the dance. Please note that if school in the Timberlane School District is cancelled due to weather conditions on the day of the dance, then the dance will also be cancelled and there will be no reschedule date.

  • Citizen of the Year

    The Atkinson Lions Club is pleased to announce that Martin (Marty) Feuer, pictured, has been chosen as the Atkinson Citizen of the Year for 2014. Marty has been an active member of the community since 1951 having been a firefighter for many years and served on the Timberlane School Board. He was the former owner of Feuer Lumber Company, and has passed the torch (and the business) to his son John Feuer. Marty is a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving as a Glider Pilot and was shot down September 19, 1944 over Rethy, Belgium, and fought in the Normandy invasion. He has been married to his wife Eleanor, for more than 66 years and will celebrate his 93rd birthday on May 3. Please join the Feuer family and the Atkinson Lions to celebrate on Sun., May 4, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Atkinson Congregational Church.

She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
