Bargain Hunters' Heaven

Carriage Towne News

---- — HAMPSTEAD - It’s on now, but not for long. It’s the Hollyhock Thrift Shop’s annual winter clothing closeout sale. It ends Sat., March 16. Prices don’t get much lower anywhere, any time than the way they are right now. After the sale ends the shop will be closed for restocking until Tuesday, April 2, when it will reopen with spring and summer clothing.

Please hold your planned donations of good quality, clean, wearable spring and summer clothing for men, women and children until March 26th. This delay will give the shop’s volunteer staff time to dispose of the left over winter items before they start sorting and locating the spring and summer things. Remember to not overload your bags of donations. It the bags are too heavy the staff has difficulty moving them around and carrying them into the shop for sorting.

The Hollyhock Thrift Shop is the oldest of the Friends of the Hampstead Public Library’s many fund raising activities. It also raises the most money for the Friends to use to support the library in so many different ways. Your support of the Thrift Shop and the Friends of the Library is vital to the Friends mission of helping your public library be one of the best small libraries in the state. Without the Friends the library wouldn’t have most of its museum passes, the Summer Reading Program would not have the performances it offers, the library wouldn’t have the defibrillator and the staff wouldn’t have the necessary training to use it and CPR. Many of the public use computers have been donated by the Friends. The list goes on and on. The Friends support the library with programs and equipment that are not included in the town appropriation in the budget.

Another Friends’ fund raising project is the Auction which will take place on Nov. 15th this year. The monthly raffles are a newer way to raise money. The Holiday House Tour has long been a popular fund raising activity. But the Thrift Shop remains the longest lived and most profitable of all the Friends’ ventures.
