'Crabbing Around'
STRATHAM – On Wed., July 1, at 6:30 p.m., the Great Bay Discovery Center is hosting a presentation on horseshoe crabs. The program will be held in the Hugh Gregg Center and is for families and adults. It features a short power-point, a visit to the touch tank to hold real horseshoe crabs, a walk to the waterfront to watch the crabs come in with the tide, and making a horseshoe crab craft. There is a suggested $1.00 donation. Light refreshments will be served and free information on horseshoe crabs will be available along with a chance to purchase a book all about horseshoe crabs. No registration is required.
Horseshoe crabs have been on earth for over 300 million years and are often referred to as “living fossils” and are a link from past eons to today’s natural world. They arrive on the shores of the Great Bay Estuary from late May to early July to lay their eggs along the shores. Their eggs are one of the most important food sources for migrating birds and small fish. Although their numbers along the eastern seaboard have been decreasing, they have managed to survive and fill us with wonder. You are invited to come and learn more about this amazing creature and more about the Discovery Center.
The Center is located on 89 Depot Road on the Stratham/Greenland town line just off Route 33. It is free and open Wednesdays to Sundays, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The grounds are open every day from dawn to dusk.

Rockingham Craftsmen Disband

The Rockingham Craftsmen, a non-profit organization, founded in 1966, has recently disbanded after forty-three years.

They donated the remaining funds in their treasury to the NH Food Bank. This gift of $3,200 was presented to Lisa Merrill-Burzak by Rockingham Craftsmen members Steve Brogan and Reid Bunker. -

A fundraiser for young Cole Stoddard, 4, of Sandown, will be held on Thurs., September 9, from 7:00-11:00 p.m., at the Atkinson Resort and Country Club.

Volunteers Needed for Relay Race
KINGSTON- The Bakie PTA will once again support the Reach the Beach Relay Race. The race starts in Bretton Woods and ends at the Hampton Beach State Park. The D.J. Bakie Elementary School will be a transition station for a third year. This station will provide food, drinks and rest for the relay teams.
