Rare Newspapers
FREMONT – The Fremont Historical Society is pleased to present Ms. Jo Radner of Lovell, Maine, who will give an interesting talk on the history of rare 19th-Century Handwritten Newspapers that entertained and informed citizens of various local happenings, history, politics, religion, etc. in several small northern New England farming communities. Fremont was one of these rare towns that was fortunate to have an early newspaper and was called “The Poplin Herald,” published between 1877 and 1880. Epping and Hampton were other local towns that had one.
In this talk, historian and storyteller Jo Radner will discuss ways Fremont institutions (and also documents from such neighboring towns as Hampton and Epping) bring the voices and aspirations - as well as the jokes and pleasures - of long-ago ancestors. Jo is currently writing a book, “Performing the Paper,” about rural community traditions of self-improvement in northern New England.
The talk will take place on Tues., May 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fremont Library Community Room. The FHS cordially invites the public to attend any or all of their meetings. Refreshments will be served. New members are welcome to join this vibrant historical society, to learn about the many intriguing and colorful events that occurred throughout Fremont and the region. Dues are only $2.00 per student, $5.00 per person, and $10.00 per family.

Rockingham Craftsmen Disband

The Rockingham Craftsmen, a non-profit organization, founded in 1966, has recently disbanded after forty-three years.

They donated the remaining funds in their treasury to the NH Food Bank. This gift of $3,200 was presented to Lisa Merrill-Burzak by Rockingham Craftsmen members Steve Brogan and Reid Bunker. -

A Quilting Couple

Volunteers Needed for Relay Race
KINGSTON- The Bakie PTA will once again support the Reach the Beach Relay Race. The race starts in Bretton Woods and ends at the Hampton Beach State Park. The D.J. Bakie Elementary School will be a transition station for a third year. This station will provide food, drinks and rest for the relay teams.

EPPING — The 10th annual Highnote Festival, a non-profit benefit for the Adam McPhee Memorial Foundation, will be held on Sat., September 11, from 2:00 p.m. until dark, at 173 Prescott Road in Epping.
