'Without Walls' at TPR

PORTSMOUTH —The setting is a baseball broadcast booth in a small minor league ballpark. Nothing fancy, a few pennants on the wall, a table, a microphone, perhaps a scorecard, a file box, and a program on a table. Also, on the table, is a pint of whiskey, a pack of cigarettes, and an ashtray. Dale Perry is the play-by-play radio announcer for the Charlestowne Townies, a Class A, minor league baseball team in West Virginia; it’s a job he has held for the past 25 years. Join Dale for the last home game of the 2012 season, which also happens to be his final broadcast, as the broadcast booth turns into a confessional booth in Without Walls by Lawrence N. Hennessy from August 2-11 at The Players’ Ring at 105 Marcy Street in Portsmouth.

This production of Without Walls is being produced and directed by Deb Barry, the founder and Executive Director of Awareness UNlimited, a NH not-for-profit organization which facilitates awareness and diversity programming with schools, businesses, civic groups/organizations, and communities, fostering understanding and respect, opening minds and opening worlds. Other work and projects for Ms. Barry have included community and professional theatre, as well as Program Manager at NH Film Festival, and editor/collaborator on Not a Victim!: Tales of Survival in Nazi Budapest by Thomas Weisshaus. Ms. Barry currently serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors at PPMtv in Portsmouth and works as a producer at the station as well. Recent theatrical endeavors have included BareFruit, an original musical on which she collaborated and also directed as well as directing Women and Love: 5 Short Plays and The Smallest Room in the House, both by Paul Goodwin and produced at The Players’ Ring.

For reservations and more information, visit www.playersring.org, or call 603-436-8123. Performance dates and times: August 2-11, Fridays and Saturdays at 10:00 p.m., Sundays at 9:00 p.m.
