Electronic Recycling Drive

HAVERHILL, MA - Individuals will have the opportunity to recycle electronic devices for free at Northern Essex Community College’s 5th Annual Electronics Recycling Event on the Haverhill Campus on Tues., April 16, rain or shine.

Free and open to the public, this event is part of the college’s celebration of Environmental Awareness Month.

The free electronics recycling will be offered from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., in the David Hartleb Technology Center Parking Lot on the Haverhill campus, 100 Elliott St.

ACT Secured Recycling of Lawrence, MA, will be available to collect outdated personal computers, laptops, fax machines, cell phones, electronics, copiers, wires and cables. No televisions, projection screens, or household appliances will be accepted.

  • Citizen of the Year

    The Atkinson Lions Club is pleased to announce that Martin (Marty) Feuer, pictured, has been chosen as the Atkinson Citizen of the Year for 2014. Marty has been an active member of the community since 1951 having been a firefighter for many years and served on the Timberlane School Board. He was the former owner of Feuer Lumber Company, and has passed the torch (and the business) to his son John Feuer. Marty is a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving as a Glider Pilot and was shot down September 19, 1944 over Rethy, Belgium, and fought in the Normandy invasion. He has been married to his wife Eleanor, for more than 66 years and will celebrate his 93rd birthday on May 3. Please join the Feuer family and the Atkinson Lions to celebrate on Sun., May 4, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Atkinson Congregational Church.

    Meredith, NH — Elwood (Al) Shaw, 93, of Center Harbor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Forestview Manor in Meredith. He was the beloved husband of the late Greta L. (Sykes) Shaw, to whom he was married for 62 years.

    Sandown, NH — Jo Ann (Phelps) Hughes of Sandown, New Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by all of her children at home. She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
