'Cello as Peacemaker'

EXETER —Cellist Dorothy Braker and pianist Mary Towse-Beck present War & Peace: Cello as Peacemaker in the 20th Century and beyond on Sun., April 14, 3:00 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, 43 Pine Street in Exeter. This performance features lyrical modern works by Katherine Hoover, Dmitri Shostakovich, Frank Bridge and Gyšrgy Ligeti. Admission free of charge.

The music performed in this program was composed in reaction to the turbulent and violent times surrounding World War I and II, and brings you from Romantic melodic introspections, impressionistic murmurings, and agitated outbursts, to unadulterated Russian passion and fire. These “modern” composers freely used their palette of harmony from Gregorian Chant all the way through French Impressionism. Braker and Towse-Beck have been performing together throughout the Seacoast for several years.
