---- — EXETER — If you’re looking for a creative way to spend your evenings, register now for a fall course:

Beginning Crochet: Learn how to read directions, increase and decrease, work in rounds vs. rows, and all the different “types” of stitches. Students will make multiple pieces, including a hat, animal, and more as time permits. Supplies provided. Additional yarns can be purchased. Please bring scissors and pencil. Class is held on Thursdays for four weeks, beginning October 3, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The cost is $60.00.

Chair Caning and Rush Seating: Restore a chair by learning how to weave a cane or rush seat. Chairs should have wood refinished. Bring to first class a chair, pail, scissors, hammer and pencil. Materials provided. Maximum 8 students. Class will meet on Tues., October 8; Thurs., October 10, and Tues., October 15, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $55.00.

Clay Hand Building: Learn the art of clay hand building through various projects. Students will learn the pinch, coil, soft slab and hard slab methods by creating cups, bowls, plates and tiles. The last class will be for glazing. Class will be held on Tuesdays for six weeks, beginning October 1, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The cost us $90.00. Supplies are included.

Fly Tying: This course offers instruction on how to tie flies that will catch fish in salt and fresh water. Review fly tying equipment and materials options. Class will be held on Mondays for seven weeks, beginning October 21, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $100.00. Equipment and materials are provided.

Painting with Pastels: This class will introduce the student to working with soft pastels, or developing skills in an experienced artist. Explore a different subject matter each week. Classes will be held on Tuesdays for six weeks, beginning October 7, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $90.00. A list of required materials will be provided. Call office for details.

Paper Pieced Quilting: This class will provide a quilting overview: how to choose fabrics ; tools used in basic quilting and paper piecing; quilt room safety; cutting fabric using a rotary cutter and template layout sheets; putting it all together; simple quilting and how to bind the final snowflake project. Learn “trim before you sew” paper piecing technique; how to stage and stack your fabric and how to get the centers of your stars to lay flat. Classes will be held on Wednesdays, for ten weeks, beginning October 2, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Compass Point Quilts Studio, 59 Sanborn Road, East Kingston. Supplies are included.

Rug Braiding: For beginners or those with some experience, learn techniques in planning and starting a rug, lacing, butting and choosing wool. Small rug or chair seat can be finished. Classes will be held Tuesdays for three weeks, beginning October 22, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $50.00.

Sculpting Animals & Figures: Using Polymer clay learn to create one of a kind sculptures. Classes are held on Mondays beginning October 21, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The cost is $85.00. Material provided to make a small project.

Sewing: Beginning sewers will pick a project and learn the basics. Experienced sewers may decide on project with the instructor to advance skills. Classes are held on Wednesdays for six weeks, beginning September 26, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Cooperative Middle School in Stratham. The cost is $90.00. Spooky Witch/Jack-O-Lantern Bottles: This Halloween use empty wine bottles to decorate your home. Please bring empty green bottle to class to paint on Thurs., October 17, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $25.00.

Holiday dried wreath & candle centerpiece: Make this decorative centerpiece to enjoy in your home for the holidays on Thurs., November 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $25.00.

Snowmen glass ball and Santa cinnamon stick: These will make great gifts and tree decorations for friends and family. Come on Tues., December 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $25.00.

Victorian Christmas Traditions: A look at the beginnings of a National Holiday and ways to celebrate in the manner of the 19th Century on Mon., November 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $15.00.

Pre-registration is required for all classes.
