Buzzin' Around

ATKINSON - Apart from its literary and film references, if you have ever wondered what the practical, day to day, Secret Life of Bees, is all about, The Atkinson Garden Club urges you to join them for an evening program of the same name, on Wed., April 3, at the Kimball Library, 5 Academy Avenue, Atkinson.

Barbara Lawler, Bow, NH, apiarist, will be the featured presenter at the club’s Spring Open Meeting. An apiairist, or beekeeper , for over 7 years, she is currently Vice-President of the Capital Area Beekeepers Association, which boasts well over 100 members. Ms. Lawler also teaches the art and craft of beekeeping at Bee School sessions throughout the Granite State.

In addition to the obvious environmental benefits and delicious, sweet nectar that bees provide, did you know that bee pollen provides 100 percent of the vitamins, minerals and amino acids we need to nourish our bodies? Or that locally harvested honey can help us deal with seasonal allergies? Or that apitherapy, a technique similar to acupuncture is successfully used to treat issues such as arthritis, gout and tendinitis?

So to hear the real buzz on The Secret Life of Bees, bring yourselves, your family and friends to the club’s free and open meeting on April 3rd. Refreshments will be served at 6:00 p.m., followed by the program at 6:30 p.m.

For more information, please contact club president, Kay Galloway at 603.362.6424
