---- — HAMPTON — The women of the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs of NH (GFWC-NH) recently hosted the 104th New England Region Conference at the Ashworth by the Sea in Hampton. One hundred seventy five GFWC members from six New England states came together to celebrate and share their volunteer spirit.
The conference theme was Women for All Seasons, as clubwomen volunteer their time and talents year round. The four seasons were represented at each main meal during the event. Friday evenings opening celebrated Spring, with the center pieces on the tables of books for the USO’s United Through Reading program. Keeping with the military theme, six clubwomen were honored for their military service. Dori Hamilton of Lisbon, Sheila Casey of Salem and Jeannie Woolf of Pembroke were from GFWC-NH Clubs.
Saturday began with the presentation of colors by the Winnacunnet High School Junior ROTC of Hampton. Lunch celebrated the Summer theme, which included center pieces made of arts and crafts supplies which were donated and accepted by Michael Constance, Director of Camp Allen in Bedford. Featured speakers included Rita Severinghaus, Md, founder of the Dominican Republic Project, and Christie Albrecht and Kim Sutton from the UN Foundation, sharing information on the Shot@Life campaign.
Saturday evening celebrated Fall with center pieces made with socks to look like cupcakes on the tables. Over 350 pair were donated along with other items to A Safe Place in Portsmouth. Lisa LeBlanc, Director of Client Services shared information on the work of their organization. The evening concluded with laughter as stand up comedian Linda Belt presented a hilarious look at the trials and tribulations of being a woman.
An inspirational breakfast on Sunday celebrated winter with centerpieces of books, toys and school supplies which were donated and accepted by Melissa Adams of Head Start NH of Strafford County.
As the conference came to a close Joyce Lindamood and Dee Beckman gave the invitation to the 2014 New England Region Conference to be held next year in Vermont.
