ATKINSON — Here’s just a tease of what’s to come during April vacation week (4/22-27) for the young people in your life. Stay tuned for future articles for the full story with details on each event. Here is your snapshot--April 22: Mother Goose (infants to age 2), Reader’s Theater (grades 2-5), April 23: Bitty Spring Dancers (ages 2-3), Little Spring Dancers (ages 3-6), Recycled Art Fun (ages k-5), Trading Faces (grades 6-12), April 24: Watercolor Wonders (grades 3 and up), Dress Me Up (high school), Comic Mime Theatre (all ages), April 25: Hopping and Popping Corn (grades k-5), Kentucky Derby Party (grades 3 and up), April 26: Scavenger Hunt (grades k-5), PJ Peeps (ages 4-8), April 27: Scavenger Hunt (grades k-5). Most events require registration. If you can’t wait for details, check our online calendar and register before the rush.
Amy Brnger from Portsmouth will have her still life artwork on display at the Kimball Library from now through May 15 and will be available on Tues., April 9, from 6:00-7:00 p.m., to answer questions about her artwork. For more information about Amy and her paintings go to www.amybrnger.com. 
It’s Not About the Hike is an event that will be at Kimball Library on April 16 at 6:30 p.m. It will bring you into your heart, lift your spirits, and inspire you to climb that next mountain in your life. It is not a presentation of "look at these two women...see what they did." It is a "look inside you...you can do it too." You will want to go back and hear it again and again. The book, “It’s Not About the Hike”, will be offered for sale after the program. The book contains 360 pages, over 245 color pictures, and sixty inspirational hike reports for $35.00, If you enjoy the presentation, you will love the book!

  • Citizen of the Year

    The Atkinson Lions Club is pleased to announce that Martin (Marty) Feuer, pictured, has been chosen as the Atkinson Citizen of the Year for 2014. Marty has been an active member of the community since 1951 having been a firefighter for many years and served on the Timberlane School Board. He was the former owner of Feuer Lumber Company, and has passed the torch (and the business) to his son John Feuer. Marty is a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving as a Glider Pilot and was shot down September 19, 1944 over Rethy, Belgium, and fought in the Normandy invasion. He has been married to his wife Eleanor, for more than 66 years and will celebrate his 93rd birthday on May 3. Please join the Feuer family and the Atkinson Lions to celebrate on Sun., May 4, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Atkinson Congregational Church.

    Meredith, NH — Elwood (Al) Shaw, 93, of Center Harbor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Forestview Manor in Meredith. He was the beloved husband of the late Greta L. (Sykes) Shaw, to whom he was married for 62 years.

  • Jo Ann Hughes, 79

    Sandown, NH — Jo Ann (Phelps) Hughes of Sandown, New Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by all of her children at home. She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.

    Atkinson, NH — Tom passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Elliot Hospital in Manchester. Tom was born on October, 30, 1940, at Clover Hill Hospital in Lawrence, Mass., as the only child to Hugh Clinton and Evelyn (Forcier) Clinton. Tom graduated from Methuen High School in 195
