Benefit Yard Sale

NEWTON – Craig Burton, of Newton, was just about to start dialysis when he learned his wife, Joanne, was not only his perfect match in love but in life. On July 31, 2012, Mrs. Burton gave her husband one of her kidneys in a lifesaving transplant surgery performed at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

The Burtons’ insurance will cover the cost of the transplant surgery, but they face many uninsured expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles; doctors’ visits; travel to and from Boston to the center for checkups; costly immunosuppressant medications Mr. Burton will need to maintain his new organ.

There will be a Yard Sale and 50/50 raffle to help raise funds on Sat., October 20, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at 5 Sarah’s Way in Newton.

Organ donor cards will be distributed at the event to raise awareness for the importance of organ donation. (The average wait time for a kidney without a living donor is four to five years.)
