Freelance Writers Workshop

MANCHESTER - Do you have great ideas for news stories or magazine features, but don’t know how or where to get them published?

The Nackey S. Loeb School of Communications is presenting a half-day Freelance Writing workshop on April 13 with some answers.

Instructor Beth LaMontagne Hall will explore how to target publications that use freelance work regularly, how to approach editors successfully, how to structure writing pieces to meet the publication’s needs and how to advance to bigger and better publications. Balancing multiple assignments, determining how much to charge and ensuring you are paid will also be discussed. Writers will receive links to online resources used by full-time freelancers to find work and receive freelance DOs and DON’Ts from Rick Broussard, executive editor of New Hampshire Magazine.

Beth LaMontagne Hall is a former City Hall reporter for the New Hampshire Union Leader. She also worked as a full-time freelance writer for publications including Yankee Magazine; Politics Magazine in Washington, DC; The Associated Press; and the Portsmouth Herald.

Rick Broussard has been editor of New Hampshire Magazine since 1993. He is co-founder and chair of the NH Theatre Awards and a member of the New Hampshire Humanities Council board of advisers.

The workshop runs 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon, and costs $30.00. To register, go to www.loebschool.org or call 627-0005.
