Danville Old Home Day

DANVILLE - Danville will hold its Old Home Day on Sun., August 25. There are many fun events planned throughout the day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Events include the Danville Police Dept. sponsored flea market and local live band performances, bouncy house sponsored by Cub Scouts, Danville Fire Dept. truck display, Danville Baptist Church service in the Old Meeting House, arts/crafts and games, town picnic sponsored by the Danville Baptist Church, story time in the Colby Memorial Library, “Cruise Night” at Mayo’s market & flag raising and lowering by the Boy Scouts. In addition, several historic town buildings will be open for viewing between 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. They are: Little Red Schoolhouse, 380 Main Street; Old Meeting House, 470 Main Street; Webster Stagecoach Stop & Store,1 Sandown Road; North Danville Union Church, 42 Beach Plain Road; Samuel and Peter Sargent Cooperage, 44 Beach Plain Road; and White Schoolhouse/Sanborn Library, 45 Beach Plain Road.

Most activities will be held at the Day field/Community Center area located in the center of town near Mayo’s market. A map and event plan will be available that day. The event plan is also posted on the town website – www.townofdanville.org. Come visit, shop, eat, play games, listen to music, and enjoy the day with friends and family.

  • Citizen of the Year

    The Atkinson Lions Club is pleased to announce that Martin (Marty) Feuer, pictured, has been chosen as the Atkinson Citizen of the Year for 2014. Marty has been an active member of the community since 1951 having been a firefighter for many years and served on the Timberlane School Board. He was the former owner of Feuer Lumber Company, and has passed the torch (and the business) to his son John Feuer. Marty is a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving as a Glider Pilot and was shot down September 19, 1944 over Rethy, Belgium, and fought in the Normandy invasion. He has been married to his wife Eleanor, for more than 66 years and will celebrate his 93rd birthday on May 3. Please join the Feuer family and the Atkinson Lions to celebrate on Sun., May 4, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Atkinson Congregational Church.

    Meredith, NH — Elwood (Al) Shaw, 93, of Center Harbor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Forestview Manor in Meredith. He was the beloved husband of the late Greta L. (Sykes) Shaw, to whom he was married for 62 years.

    Sandown, NH — Jo Ann (Phelps) Hughes of Sandown, New Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by all of her children at home. She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
