DURHAM – Medicinal, sensual, beautiful and of prized culinary value – Herbs! Join the Durham Garden Club as they welcome Rita Wollmering, founder of the HERB FARMacy.
Rita will share her national as well as international knowledge of herbs at the Tues., September 16 meeting of the Durham Garden Club. Techniques about growing, harvesting and over wintering herbs indoors along with methods for preserving herbs will be discussed. Also included will be a demonstration on how to make great gifts using herbs.
The HERB FARMacy is a 10-acre certified organic farm and nursery selling over 800 varieties of herb, heirloom vegetable and antique flower plants located in Salisbury, MA. HERB FARMacy products can be found at regional farmer markets throughout the summer. Additionally, classes and an herb apprentice program are taught at the farm.
Honors bestowed upon the farm include selection by Massachusetts Department of Food and Agriculture featuring their plants at the 2000 New England Spring Flower Show, an article on the use of growing techniques from the farms greenhouse was published in 2003 in Herb Companion Magazine and most recently in 2006 the farm was featured in the “Best of New England” magazine as the best place to buy organic plants.
As always, the goals of the Durham Garden Club are educational, charitable and aesthetic - to promote respect for our natural resources, knowledge of conservation the study of horticulture and the love of gardening. The club meets at the St. George Episcopal Church on Main Street in Durham. Social time with refreshments begins at 6:30 p.m., and a brief business meeting is held before the program.
