EXETER – The six musicians of the Raymond Street Klezmer Band will tickle your ears with the lively and festive tunes of Klezmer music at the CoffeeHouse concert on Sat., October 4, at 7:30 p.m., at the Congregational Church on 21 Front Street in Exeter. This family event, which is open to the public, will bring the thrilling rhythms of traditional Yiddish dance to a local audience.
The Raymond Street Klezmer Band hails from Temple Beth Abraham in Nashua, and is comprised of six musicians: clarinet, sax, accordian, guitar, drums, piano, percussion, and vocals. With a repertoire of centuries-old and modern Yiddish songs, the band will recreate the lively music scene of Eastern Europe, playing traditional folk songs as well as popular melodies of today, such as “Tzena, Tzena” and “Bei Mir Bist Du Sein.” The Raymond Street Band is New Hampshire’s only Klezmer band, and is very much in demand for weddings, dances, and Bar Mitzvahs. They recently represented New Hampshire in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC.
Tickets ($12.00/10.00/ and free for children under 8) will be available at the door or in advance at the church office 772-4216. Refreshments and beverages are included in the ticket price. The concert will be held in the church’s newly renovated vestry, which is handicapped accessible. The audience will be seated at small tables with an area for dancing.
