PLAISTOW – The Knights of Columbus of Plaistow/Atkinson are holding their 13th annual St Jude Golf Open on Sat., June 7, at Granite Fields Golf Course in Kingston. The Knights run the golf tournament to benefit a local family in need.
The Open costs $95.00 per person, and includes 18 holes of golf, a riding cart, a steak BBQ, free gifts, and many prizes. Hole Sponsorships are available for $100.00 each. A special package of a foursome and hole sponsorship is available for $450.00. All of the sponsorship money goes directly to help the family in need. It’s a great way to advertise your business since most of the players are from the local area. Last year’s tournament sold out early.
This year, the Knights are helping out two families. Dana and Tiffany Rabito of Plaistow have a young daughter, Torrie who has Sturge-Weber Syndrome that affects both sides of her brain and among other things causes her to have multiple sizures. Torrie recently spent 31 days mostly in ICU at a Boston Hospital due to recent seizures.
This was financially very difficult for the family between taking time out of work, multiple trips to Boston, food, parking, gas etc… During this time, their boiler also had to be replaced. Torrie is on many medications which require significant co-pays and there are out of pocket hospital costs that the insurance won’t pay. Dana works for the Town of Plaistow and Tiffany works at Sanborn Candies in Plaistow.
The second family who will benefit from this year’s Open is the Bowman family also of Plaistow. Mike and Gina have three children, Mike Jr., Averie, and Braidon. They are expecting their fourth child very shortly. Mike is a local framing contractor whose business had been very slow due to the housing slow down. Unfortunately, in December, Mike had a very bad accident and broke his leg in multiple places. He has been unable to work and is currently going through physical therapy. The family has had some very difficult times financially due to this situation. Gina has been working and, in spite of all that is happening, is again making efforts to chair this year’s, Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society which her family has shown tremendous support for in the past.
