Kingston Library News

KINGSTON – Throughout the month of October, we will take part in NH Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts, and NH State Library, designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. Participants are highlighting the works of Edgar Allen Poe.

Grab your bagged lunch and spend your lunch hour with Poe. Join as we view biographies and film adaptations of Poe’s work and enjoy free coffee and refreshments! Wednesdays, October 3, 10, 17 and 24, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Stay tuned for more Poe inspired programs throughout the month of October!

Throughout the month of October, view “The Road Not Taken”, an art exhibit inspired by the poetry of Robert Frost and conceived by Derry artists Corinne Dodge, Judy Krassowski, and Ingeborg Seaboyer. The artwork viewed in “The Road Not Taken” includes both new works inspired by the words of Robert Frost and some older pieces that provide vivid and connective imagery for his anthology of poems. Enjoy the comfort of an old friend, or introduce yourself to his view on neighbors, survival and nature.

Banned Books week runs from September 30-October 6. It celebrates the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. What is your favorite challenged book? Pick up a banned or challenged book in the Children’s room to read this month, and then join on Fri., September 28 at 3:30 p.m., for snacks and drinks as we talk about the books you chose! Show and tell a craft or prop, come dressed up as your favorite character, and have fun! Ages 7+.

All ages are cordially invited to a Soiree on Fri., October 5 at 3:30 p.m. Soiree is French for party (everything is fancier in French). Please join us for splendid activities and delectable snacks to celebrate the fabulous young girl who helps bring some sparkle into our lives! Remember to dress in your fanciest clothes. Tiaras welcome!
