HAMPSTEAD - Come to the Hampstead Public Library for spooky lighthouse tales on Wed., October 30, at 7:00 p.m. The leading expert on New England’s historic lighthouses, Jeremy D’Entremont, will discuss the area’s most fascinating lighthouse ghost stories. He’ll include information from paranormal investigations in which he participated. Jeremy is the author of more than ten books, including “The Lighthouse Handbook: New England.”
BOOK DISCUSSION - On November 21st at 1:00 p.m., the Hampstead Public Library’s Third Thursday Book Group will discuss “Without a Map” by Meredith Hall. This moving but unsentimental memoir begins in 1965, when she becomes pregnant at sixteen. Shunned by her insular New Hampshire community, she is then kicked out of the house by her mother. Her father and stepmother reluctantly take her in, hiding her, before they finally banish her altogether. After being forced to give her baby boy up for adoption, Hall wanders recklessly through the Middle East. She returns to New England and stitches together a life. What sets “Without a Map” apart is the way in which loss and betrayal evolve into compassion, and compassion into wisdom. Copies of the book are available at the library. Newcomers are always welcome to the discussions.
NEW DATABASES - The Hampstead Public Library is pleased to now offer its patrons access to two new databases: Chilton Auto Repair and Legal Forms. All you need is your library card number to access this information at home or anywhere you have an internet connection.
When it comes to auto repair, “do-it-yourselfers” and automotive enthusiasts have trusted Chilton repair manuals for years. Now, these authoritative manuals with more extensive resources can be accessed 24/7 via the library website. Unlike the printed editions, the content available on “ChiltonLibrary” is updated on a monthly basis, ensuring the most advanced and up-to-date information available. This database provides quick online access to repair, maintenance, and service information on seven decades of the broadest range of vehicles available, including cars, trucks, vans and SUVs.
The Legal Forms database provides a convenient, authoritative means for understanding common legal procedures through access to forms that have been drafted by attorneys. No special skills or extensive knowledge of the law is required because “LegalForms” offers an easy-to-use approach to addressing complex legal matters. Forms available include those related to wills, divorce, name change, rental agreements, and incorporation. Whether for business, personal or litigation purposes, each form is conveniently accessible and downloadable in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and other formats.
To use these databases, Hampstead Public Library cardholders can simply click on the appropriate icon near the upper right of the homepage, www.HampsteadLibrary.org. If you live or work in Hampstead and don’t have a library card, please visit the library to get a card and gain access to all this information, as well as free eBooks, audiobooks, and so much more!
