COLLEGE ESSAY HELP - The Hampstead Public Library is hosting a free workshop designed for high school seniors, “The Write Stuff: College Essays,” on Mon., October 7, at 6:00 pm. The speaker is from NHHEAF, a NH organization that provides free college planning assistance for students and parents. Attendees will get tips and strategies on developing the written portion of college applications. While the main focus will be on the essay, we will also discuss creating a college resume and letters of recommendation. Those who have a college essay in progress should bring it to the workshop. One-on-one assistance will be given if time allows. Students do not need to be a Hampstead resident to attend. HEALTHCARE ACT INFO SESSION - On October 10 at 6:30 p.m., a representative from the non-profit group NH Citizens Alliance will be at the Hampstead Public Library to provide an educational program about the new Affordable Care Act. Enrollment, when NH residents may purchase health insurance in the new Marketplace, opens on October 1. The health insurance plans will go into effect on January 1, 2014. While the Marketplace brings with it the prospect of quality, affordable healthcare for all, there are many questions on how the Affordable Care Act will operate in NH. Who will be eligible for premium credits and cost sharing subsidies? What will the process will be like? Will we have Medicaid Expansion in NH and what will be the impact? Who will assist consumers in purchasing on-line? There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion at this free event. The presenter is Karen Kelly, Community Organizer for Health Care from the non-profit group NH Citizens Alliance.
