Summer Reading Celebration

SOUTH HAMPTON — South Hampton's Barnard School and Public Library joined hands to encourage the community's school children to “Dig into Reading” this summer. The readers celebrate their efforts at an after school party on Wed., September 11. Students in grades 1-8 read three or more chapter books, or ten or more shorter books or magazines to receive an invitation to the celebration to be held at the Barnard School.

Research informs us that students who read regularly over the summer maintain or increase their reading skill during those months. These students have an academic advantage when beginning a new school year.

Barnard and Library staff and parent volunteers help make sure a good time will be had by all in attendance. Friends of the Public Library are making “dirt cake” with (gummy) worms. The P.T.A. and the Library will provide raffle prizes. Summer readers will leave the Summer Reading Celebration with new books of their own choice to read at home.

Congratulations to all Barnard School summer readers!
