---- — HAMPSTEAD — Hampstead Public Library is pleased to offer the following programs and events.

Storytime for Toddlers: Fall Storytime at the Hampstead Public Library for 3-5 year old children will begin the week of September 9 and continue through December. Sessions are on Mondays at 10:00 a.m. and repeated on Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. We will read books, sing songs and do a craft. No advance sign-up is necessary.

Paws to Read: Johnny Claude the Listener Dog returns to the Hampstead Public Library on Monday, September 9th from 4:00 to 5:30PM. He is a certified therapy dog who loves to listen to kids read, tell stories, or act out a book. The Paws to Read program is terrific for reluctant readers of any age. You can set up a fifteen minute session with Johnny Claude, by signing-up at the library’s front desk or calling the library at 329-6411. Adults are also welcome to visit with Johnny Claude.

Practice S.A.T.: The Hampstead Public Library will be hosting a mock S.A.T. for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who want tips and practice to improve their performance on the actual test. Students have a choice of two sessions: Sat., September 14 or Sat., October 12, both take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Advance registration is required; class size is limited and tends to fill quickly. You do not have to be a Hampstead resident to attend. Call the library at 329-6411 or email ProgramsHPL@gmail.com to sign-up.

Borrow A Telescope: Clear nights are great for stargazing. The Hampstead Public Library can help you with this fun and educational pastime! Library cardholders can check out an Orion StarBlast telescope. It comes with an instruction manual, Starry Night software and Sky Theater DVD, Constellation Pocket Guide, and headlamp. Check out period is one week. You may confirm availability and reserve the telescope in person at the library, or by calling 329-6411, or by placing a hold via the library’s website catalog.

Book Discussion: On Thurs., September 19 at 1:00 p.m., the Hampstead Public Library’s Third Thursday Book Group will discuss “Tell the Wolves I’m Home” by Carol Rifka Brunt. In this novel, the author has made a singular portrait of how the late 1980’s AIDS epidemic transforms a girl and her family. It is a literary coming-of-age story and an unforgettable depiction of the way compassion can make us whole again. Copies are available at the library. Newcomers are always welcome.
