---- — ATKINSON —TRSD is having their vacation week and we’ve got activities for the young people in your life. Except for “Mother Goose on the Loose”, our typical preschool story times have been suspended to offer events for the grade school set that often doesn’t have a chance to come to the library. Please take a look below at what is happening and for what age groups. All classes require registration with the exception of Legos and PJ Peeps.
Mother Goose on the Loose: Mon., February 25, 10:30-11:00 a.m.: Infants through age 2 with their caregivers are invited to join us for simple stories, rhymes, finger plays, and songs. This is non-stop action for thirty minutes. Register before you come. Please feel welcome to stay after the session to allow for playtime and socializing for all ages.
Brown Bag Book Club: Mon., February 25, 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Books are available for grades 2-4 at the children’s desk for you to pick up in plenty of time for reading. Registration is required. We always provide the dessert and drinks while we talk about the book. Bring your dinner in a bag and give us a try. February’s book is “Andrew Lost in the Kitchen by J.C. Greenburg”.
Legos, More Legos: Tues., February 26, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.: Come build skyscrapers, mystery scenes, or something creative with our Legos or Duplo blocks. See how clever you can be! This activity is perfect for ages 4 and up.
A SWEET Contest: Tues., February 26, 6:30-7:45 p.m.: T/weens in grades 5-12 are invited to compete at the library to see who is the king or queen of sweets! Details are online (or call or drop by) as you register with the contest rules. Invite your friends and see who the sweetest chef is!
Creative Candle Making: Wed., February 27, 3:00-4:30 p.m.: Our guest, Carolyn Nenart, from the Wenham Museum will join grades 2 and up for a candle making demonstration and tutorial. Participants will learn to make dipping candles and ice candles. Join in the fun and share in the art of candle making.
Michelle’s Menagerie: Wed., February 27, 6:30-7:30 p.m.: If you really want to learn about mammals, this is the event for you. Register kids only (we know they will be accompanied by adults). This event is developmentally geared for children in grades K-6. Preschoolers are welcome if they sit with their parents. We have a limit of 50 children.
Book Swap Party: Thurs., February 28, 1:00-2:00 p.m.: For grades 1-5, do you have books that you’ve read already two or three times? Or, books you’d like to change for new reads? Bring them to the library and take home a different book! If you bring three books, you can swap for three-that’s how it works! We’ll also have cookies and punch while we choose the books.
Decoupage Lighted Snowman: Thurs., February 28, 6:30-7:30 p.m.: Enjoy the art of decoupage while making a jolly snowman. Finish with a tea light and watch how your project glows! Register grades 3 and up.
Parachute Play!: Fri., March 1, 1:30-2:30 p.m.: Register kindergartners and up to join in the fun as we play games and enjoy moving with a parachute. Songs and surprises will make this a workout you won’t want to miss!
PJ Peeps: Fri, March 1, 7:00-7:30 p.m.: PJ peeps are welcome to come in pajamas and listen to several stories and get a goodnight snack. This is a story time for families and their young children capable of listening to three books.
We will be closed on Mon., February 18 for Presidents Day. Stock up in advance and enjoy extra time on those two-day loans the Friday before the closing.
