---- — PLAISTOW —Do you have the time and desire to fight for library services? What about a strong, unshakeable belief in the importance of libraries? Two seats are opening on the Board of Trustees and the library is in need of committed persons to fill these places. If you are interested in volunteering as a library trustee, please sign up at the Town Office between January 23 and February 1. Trustees’ duties include adopting bylaws for the government of the library, preparing an annual budget for the support and maintenance of the library, expending moneys raised and appropriated by the town for library purposes, and appointing the librarian (director) and, in consultation with the librarian, all other employees of the library. If you would like an opportunity to help the library remain a vital and vibrant part of the community, please sign up to run for trustee.

The Library has added several new magazine subscriptions to our collection. Atlantic Monthly, Dirt Bike, Fast Company, Living Without, Model Railroader, O Magazine and Weight Watchers are now available for circulation. Come by and browse these options in the periodicals section.

Crafty Doodles meets with Miss Nancy on Sat., January 26 at 11:00 a.m. Nancy will be doing a bead craft. All ages welcome. Stories with Savannah meets Mon., January 28—four fifteen-minute time slots are available on the fourth Monday each month for ages 6 and up to practice reading skills with this special Labrador Retriever Therapy Dog and her handler. Registration is required; sign up on our website or call the library.

Ongoing children’s programs include Baby Lap Sit and Toddler Time Storytimes. Baby Lap Sit meets Tuesday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. for Ages 0-2; Toddler Time meets Thursday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. for Ages 3-5. Both programs feature age-appropriate rhymes, music, wordplay and stories with an occasional craft. Snacks are provided. The first three Tues./Thurs. of the month are traditional storytime; the fourth is free play time for both age groups.

Are you interested in a book group? An adult book group is being planned for once a month on Thursday evenings. Let us know if you’d like to be signed up, so we know how many books to order. Our first will meet in February.

The library owns two new Paperwhite Kindles. Patrons may check out any of our three Kindles and be able to access the titles the library owns on Kindle. If you would like to learn more about how to use an eReader, “Tech Talks” continue this year: Mondays at noon and 6:30 pm. Come to the library with or without a kindle/nook/other eReader and we’ll help you figure it out! Remember the library loans a variety of eReaders, and can guide you through using them.

The library’s January artist is Nicole DeClerck, who is displaying a mix of her and her students’ winter scenes. Visit our Facebook page for photos of the work, and come by the library to see it in person. If you are an artist or you have a collection to display at the library in 2013, let us know and we’ll schedule a month.

Cribbage meets Wednesdays, 2:00-4:00 p.m.—come to the library to sharpen your cribbage skills and socialize! Snacks and drinks provided by Plaistow Recreation and the library.

Join us for LEGO/WII Fridays to build with our large LEGOs collection or challenge yourself to a game of Wii. Preschool children meet 1:00-2:30 p.m., School-aged children 3:00-4:30 p.m.
