HAMPSTEAD —The Hampstead Public Library hosts a “Getting Started with Cross Stitch” workshop on Tues., January 29 at 1:00 p.m. Get to know this wonderful needlework art on a beginner’s level by stitching a project that will be completed in one session. Find out how to prepare material and threads. Learn to center and begin your design, as well as how to stitch in different directions. Stitches learned will be cross stitch and backstitch. All cross stitch materials and handouts will be included. Please bring a small pair of scissors and a magnifier if you need one. If you are interested in participating, please sign-up for this workshop at the library’s front desk, call 329-6411, or email jarden@hampstead.lib.nh.us. In the event of inclement weather, the snow date for this event is Thurs., January 31 at 1:00 p.m.

FREE YOGA - There is a free chair yoga class at the Hampstead Public Library on Tues., February 5, from 3:00-3:45 p.m This monthly class features non-impact exercises that are beneficial for men and women, teens and adults. Participants move at their own pace, sitting, standing, or using a chair for support. The instructor is Maggie Morgan from the Yoga Room in Hampstead.

NONFICTION BOOK DISCUSSION - Books for the February meeting of the Non-Fiction Book Group at the Hampstead Public Library are now available for check out. Participants will be discussing “Tuesdays with Morrie: an old man, a young man, and life’s greatest lesson” by Mitch Albom. This novel chronicles the months in which Albom spends time with his old and dying mentor, Morrie Schwartz. Morrie shares his enduring wisdom and gives Mitch lessons in how to live. This discussion will be on Mon., February 17 at 7:00 p.m. Newcomers are always welcome, and are encouraged to come and help choose further books to read and discuss.

THIRD THURSDAY BOOK DISCUSSION - Books for the February meeting of the Hampstead Public Library’s Third Thursday Afternoon Book Group are now available for check out. Participants will be discussing “The Housekeeper and the Professor” by Yoko Ogawa. An astute young Housekeeper, with a 10-year-old son, is hired to care for a Professor who has a peculiar problem. Ever since a traumatic head injury, he has lived with only eighty minutes of short-term memory. Every morning the Professor and the Housekeeper are introduced to each other anew, and a strange and lovely relationship blossoms between them. This enchanting novel is a story about what it means to live in the present, and about the curious equations that can create a family. The discussion will be on February 21 at 1:00 p.m. Newcomers are always welcome.

She was the beloved wife of the late Mr. Shirl W. Learned and the late Raymond E. Gosselin.
