---- — ATKINSON —Get out your paper sack and you’re halfway ready for the Brown Bag Book Club that is geared for children in grades 2-4. This month’s title is ‘Eve of the Emperor Penguin’ by Mary Pope Osborne which is book #40 in the Magic Tree House series, and the discussion time is on Mon., January 28, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. This book club is held on the fourth Monday of the month. Books are available at the children’s desk for you to pick up in plenty of time for reading. Your child can read this on his/her own or you can read it in tandem. We always provide the dessert and drinks while we talk about the book we’re reading. Have your child’s supper in a bag and give it a try.

This is just a reminder that you don’t have to start at the beginning of a session to take part in our preschool classes. We currently have three sessions of Kiddie Lit (ages 3-6 on Tues., Thurs., and a new class on Fri.), Bitty Books (ages 2-3 on Tuesdays), Mother Goose on the Loose (infants to age 2 on Mon.), and book discussions for three distinct age groups: teen: grades 9-12, tween: grades 5-8, and Brown Bag Club grades 2-4. Please register for these classes. Also remember that we have PJ Peeps for ages 4-8 every Friday night, and you may drop in with pajama-donned kids at 7:00 p.m. for a story and snack.

Another reminder is that we are very fortunate to have some beautiful photography by Ron Wybranowski currently being displayed in the library. Ron is a serious amateur photographer just starting to publicly display his work. His primary focus is on nature photography, with a goal of capturing singular images of the beautiful scenery, flowers, birds and animals which surround us all. Ron has very generously offered to raffle one of his photographs from the exhibit. The winner can pick which photo they would like and he will mat and frame a 16X 20 for them. Raffle tickets are $1.00 each or six for $5.00. The winner will be drawn on Mon., February 4 at 3:00 p.m. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Kimball Library for library events and programs.

The exhibit “Impressionism in Photography” has been on display in the library since late December. On Tues., February 5 at 6:30 p.m., the photographer, Ron Wybranowski, will be here to discuss his work. He will talk about how he has expanded his photographic view from clear, sharp, in-focus images of nature and wildlife to include these diffused and brilliantly colored images of many of the same scenes.

The techniques used are very long exposures, sometimes aided by multiple neutral density filters, and panning the camera either horizontally or vertically to gather the sweep of the scene. The subject matter remains much the same: sunrise, sunset, the seashore, forests and fall foliage. This impressionistic approach requires new “eyes” to see a final image which evokes a much more emotional response. The ten images in this exhibit are the result of those efforts. Ron will talk about the images on display and where, when, and how these and others were taken. He will also present two short slideshows of his other work.
