NEWTON — As we welcome the New Year, it is an excellent time to visit the library for the latest bestsellers, craft and cookbooks to enjoy the winter season. We also have books that feature outdoor sports such as snowboarding, skiing and more. A great time to try something new!

Congratulations to the lucky winners of the Friends’ Holiday Basket Raffle! The drawing was held on December 21. Gratitude is extended to the many who donated baskets for this annual fundraising event.

Thank you very much to everyone who selected gift tags from the Angel Tree this year. Your gifts of kindness made the Holidays brighter for many!

Morning Book Review Circle will meet on Wed., January 16 at 10:30 a.m. New members are always welcome to join and share their latest read. A morning snack and coffee will be served.

Our next Genealogy Club meeting will be held on Wed., January 16 at 1:00 p.m. The group will continue with their research about the history of early Newton community members. The library subscribes to ProQuest Ancestry Library Edition databases: http://ancestrylibrary.com. Please contact the library for username and password information.

Cribbage games continue each Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. If you are new to the game, players will be happy to offer helpful instruction.

  • Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown, 66

    Ft. Gibson, OK — Catherine F. "Kitty" (Clements) Brown passed away February 17, 2013, at her home in Ft. Gibson, Okla., after a brave battle with cancer. Kitty was born in Brentwood, N.H., on April 21, 1946, to the late Chester H. Clements and Catherine F. (Morse) Clements. She was raised in Kingston, N.H., and graduated from Sanborn Seminary. She lived for many years on Plum Island, Mass. While living on Plum Island, she was a columnist and photographer for The Daily News of Newburyport, as well as a school bus driver.

  • Ted "Teddy" Bolduc

    Fremont, N.H. — Ted “Teddy” Burleigh Bolduc, was born the youngest son of Phyllis and Joseph Bolduc Sr., on May 22, 1962. He died suddenly April 8, 2013, after a brief illness. Ted lived for most of his life in Fremont and Raymond. He was well known for his skills with heavy equipment and worked all his life in construction and excavation in the Fremont and Epping area. In addition to his work, he loved ice hockey, baseball, hunting, country music, and animals, especially his dog Finlay. He was very proud of, and also loved by, his very large family.
