Plaistow Library News

PLAISTOW — The library will be closed December 31 after 3:00 p.m., and January 1 for New Year’s. Happy Holiday s from the staff at Plaistow Public Library!

Our lovable little library mascot, Percy, has been so popular this year we’ve acquired a second to make sure our patrons can bring one on their travels. Come by the library before January 15 to help us name Percy’s dad, a bigger version of Percy! Three names will be submitted and children can vote for the ones they like best!

Bring the kids to the library for several exciting activities during Christmas vacation. Don’t miss Michelle’s Menagerie: a traveling zoo that combines entertainment and education, providing the opportunity to learn about animals and their importance in the world on Thurs., December 27 at 1:30 p.m. This is an awesome wildlife encounter! In business since 1989, Michelle is a member of the Zoological Association of America. Children under the age of 3 must sit with a parent. There is a limit of fifty attendees for this program. Registration is required.

On Fri., December 28, children ages 4-9 are invited to listen to the story ‘The Polar Express’, then decorate (pre-made) cookies in the holiday theme. Registration is required, limit 20.

On Mon., December 31, from 1:00- 2:15 p.m., come to a Chinese New Year celebration: 2013 is The Year of the Snake. Learn about the tradition, use the Zodiac calendar to look up your birth year, and make a craft. Ages 6-12. Registration required.

The library’s monthly programming meets as usual: The Magic Tree House Book Club meets December 26 at 4:00 p.m., for Grades 1-3. Discover the magic of reading with this very popular book series.

The library’s January artist is Nicole DeClerck, who will be showing a mix of her and her students’ winter scenes. Visit our Facebook page for photos of the work when it is hung, and come by the library to see it in person.

“Tech Talks” begin again after the holidays: Mondays at 12:00 and 6:30 p.m., bring your kindle/nook/other eReader to the library and we’ll help you figure it out. Remember the library loans eReaders as well, and can guide you through using them.

As always, follow us online at www.plaistowlibrary.com, Facebook and twitter for news and updates.
