Hampstead Library News

HAMPSTEAD - During April school vacation week, kids and their families are invited to visit the Creation Station located in the Hampstead Public Library’s first floor program room. Kids can make and take home a rocket ship! There will also be an ongoing group project in which everyone can contribute to the construction of a time-travel machine. What do you think a time machine should look like? All the materials for these projects will be supplied. You only need to bring your creativity and imagination.

NASA & ALAN SHEPARD - On Tues., April 30, at 7:00 p.m., the Hampstead Public Library is pleased to welcome Dr. Mark McConnell, professor and Chair of the Physics department at the University of New Hampshire. In keeping with Spring Read themes, McConnell will explore the topic of space travel starting with the early days of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA.) He will also talk about the astronauts who made history with the Mercury Missions, including East Derry NH native Alan Shepard. Please join us for this fascinating look at the history of our nation’s space program.

CELBRATE THE 60’s - For the Spring Read finale the Hampstead Public Library will have a party to celebrate the decade in which the feature book was written: the 1960’s. Come for the food, beverages and fun on Wed., May 1, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Feel free to dress in 60’s attire. Some attendees will embrace the Mad Men style. Tell us what you love about the 60’s - the Andy Griffith show? Dick Van Dyke? bell-bottoms? go-go boots? Frankie and Annette in “Beach Party?” Please join us for this entertaining event!

MEET THE AUTHOR - All are welcome to the Book Launch Party for Marcia Strykowski, a Hampstead Public Library staff member, on Sat., May 4, starting at 1:00 p.m., in the library’s 2nd floor meeting room. Help Marcia celebrate the release of her debut novel, “Call Me Amy,” which will be published in May by Luminis Books. In the novel, a wounded seal-pup propels 13-year old Amy into an unlikely alliance with an unusual older woman and a mysterious boy in a small Maine village. Readers will cheer Amy as she protects Pup, faces challenges and gains confidence. Please join us at the library to celebrate Marcia’s accomplishment. There will be food, music, door prizes and fun. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
