PLAISTOW — April School Vacation Week is packed with activities! Mon., April 22 our much anticipated Spring Carnival will be held at the Town Green, co-sponsored by the library and by the Recreation department. Entertainment, music, games, a bouncy house and food will be enjoyed. At the library, Stories with Savannah is available from 4:00-5:00 p.m.—register for a fifteen-minute time slot to cuddle and practice reading with this very special therapy dog. Presented by Tail Waggin’ Tutors for ages 6 and up.
On Tues., April 23, drop by for a Bead-A-Thon, from 12:00-3:00 p.m. Girl Scout Troop 13975 will be helping. Choose your favorite of various projects. No registration required. On Thurs., April 25, ages 3-6 may join Angie from European School of Dancing for a Spring Dance & Tea Party from 10:00-11:00 a.m.—a dance and movement class followed by a Tea Party and simple craft. Registration is required. Finally a PG Family Movie will be shown at 1:00 p.m., with popcorn and drink provided. No registration required, all ages welcome. What if you only had one day to live? What would you do? Who would you kiss? And how far would you go to save your own life? The Teen Voices book group will begin reading “Before I Fall” by Lauren Oliver which poses these questions for its teen heroine Samantha Kingston. Come by the library to pick up a copy of the book. Teen Voices meets every fourth Wednesday for ages 13 and up. The book will be discussed during school vacation week on April 24, from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Book donations are being accepted for the Friends’ Book Sale. Donations will be accepted until Fri., May 10—no moldy books, textbooks, or encyclopedias, please. Come browse the Friends’ Book Sale on Sat., May 11, from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., to find a gift for mom, or for yourself. To volunteer at the Book Sale or learn how else you can help the Friends, come to the next Friends meeting Mon., April 29 at 6:30 p.m., in the History Room at the library. New members are always welcome. The Friends of the Library are holding a drawing for an iPad Touch—tickets are $1.00 each or six for $5.00. Drawing begins April 1 and the winner will be picked May 11 during the Friends’ book sale.
A beautiful and eclectic display of carousel horses is on display at the library courtesy of Robyn Beaulieu. Visit the library to see this collection during the month of April. The art on the walls are block prints from Ms. Duffy’s 7th Grade Explorers from Timberlane Middle School. Time and date of a reception for students and parents to view the exhibit will be announced.
April is National Poetry Month! Come in with a poem you’ve written about the library and enter our contest. Three winners will be chosen from ages 1-12, 13-18, and 19 and up, on May 1. Prizes will be announced.
