NEWTON —Thank you to everyone who participated and attended our second Open Mic/Talent Show that was held recently. There were singers, dancers, guitarists, fiddlers, and mandolin players that delivered entertaining performances. A great showcase of local talent of all ages!

Dr. Matt Swiesz of East Hampstead will present his second workshop in a series, titled, Nutrition and Weight Loss, on Wed., August 7 at 6:45 p.m. Learn healthful hints and recommendations to look and feel your very best. A sign-up sheet is located at the front desk. Light refreshments will be served. This program is free and open to the public.

A Friday Family Flick will be shown on August 9 at 2:00 p.m. Join us in air-conditioned comfort and enjoy a relaxing summer afternoon. Popcorn is always served, just bring along your beverage and favorite snack.

The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire will present their program, Dig into the Deep Sea: Fish Aren’t Afraid of the Dark, on Wed., August 14 at 1:00 p.m. Each participant will take home their own glowing creature activity. A sign-up sheet is located in the children’s room, as space is limited.

A Kindle Workshop will be held on Wed., August 21 at 2:00 p.m. Jillian will share helpful hints and recommendations that will maximize usage and efficiency of your Kindle devices.

    Meredith, NH — Elwood (Al) Shaw, 93, of Center Harbor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Forestview Manor in Meredith. He was the beloved husband of the late Greta L. (Sykes) Shaw, to whom he was married for 62 years.

  • Jo Ann Hughes, 79

    Sandown, NH — Jo Ann (Phelps) Hughes of Sandown, New Hampshire passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, surrounded by all of her children at home. She was born in Little Bend Kentucky, to Beatrice (Shepherd) Phelps and John (Cat) Phelps in 1934. Jo Ann was predeceased by brothers, Marcus Phelps, Johnny Phelps, Forrest Phelps and sisters, Juanita Phelps, and Jeanette (Phelps) Vincent. She is survived by brother, Donald Quiggins of Georgia; sisters, Geneva (Phelps) Stanley of Kentucky, and Frances (Phelps) Bratcher of Tennessee who had just visited Jo Ann in September of 2013.
