PLAISTOW —The library’s “End of Summer Reading Extravaganza and Ice Cream Social” features NH singer/storyteller Steve Blunt on Thurs., August 22 at 5:30 p.m. It will include songs and stories with an underground theme: volcanoes, dinosaurs, etc. Steve Blunt has over twenty years experience in the arts and education. This library event offers fun, upbeat musical entertainment for families with children of all ages. Drawings for the final raffle prizes will take place. Ice cream is provided courtesy of ‘Beyond Vanilla’ in Hampstead. Registration is required as space is limited.

The library wishes to thank the contributions of many, many donors who contributed prizes to the summer reading program this year. Well Read Books, Friendly’s, Uno’s Pizzeria in Haverhill, Skateland, Beyond Vanilla, Imajine That, Water Country, Canobie Lake Park, Gunstock Mountain, Topsfield Fair, Stillwell’s Ice Cream, Red’s Shoe Barn, Fisher Cats, Ashley’s Hallmark, Longhorn Steakhouse, and the Passaconaway Quilters were some of the generous donors toward prizes and/or programming this summer. The library is grateful for the overwhelming support for reading and library programs.

The Plaistow Lions Club has very generously donated two iPad 2s, now available for use in the Children’s Area. These iPads are preloaded with quality learning apps to meet educational and recreational needs, and improve technological literacy of children of all ages. The library would like to thank the Lions Club for their consistent commitment to improving the Plaistow community and beyond, with gifts such as these. Call the library or ask at the Children’s Desk for more information about use of the iPads.

The library’s ongoing cribbage and bridge matches meet on Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. Come and play a game with friends, enjoy a cup of coffee and light refreshments. Children may enjoy Friday Afternoon Legos and Wii starting at 1:00 p.m.: build with our large LEGO collection, or challenge yourself to a game of Wii. No registration required.

    LAWRENCE — Marie Rose (Robidoux) Audy, passed away at her home surrounded by her family, after suffering a stroke in April. She was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of the late Rose A. (Betit) and Alfred Robidoux, originally of Quebec, Canada. She was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Armand Joseph Audy, who passed away on June 28, 1976.

  • Francis M. Lurvey, 76

    Bar Harbor, ME — Francis M. Lurvey passed away Sunday, June 22, in Bar Harbor, Maine, after battling cancer. By his side were his sons, Edwin Lurvey and Steven Lurvey and his niece and husband, Debra and Richard Carey, as well as cousin, Marion McDonald. He was the son of Edwin R Lurvey (Bar Harbor) and Delia Amazeen (Dexter). He is survived by five children, a stepson, and their families. His sons, Edwin and wife April, Steven and wife, Pam, David and his daughter, Meghan, as well as his daughters, Lorraine and Ellen and her husband, Paul DiScipio with daughters, Katherine and Julia, and his stepson, Brian Faulkner and wife, Jody with children, Trevor, Rachel, and Keith. He is also survived by his sister, Sheryl, and many nieces and nephews including Frank Lurvey and Elaine Langer. Francis was predeceased by his twin brother, Frank, as well as his brothers, Edwin and Erwin. He was also predeceased by his longtime companion, Brian and Edwin’s mother, Maureen Faulkner and former wife, Roberta Lurvey Gilmore.

Predeceased by his wife, Alice Hopper, he is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Joann Peatfield; daughters, Shay Belair and Jayne Pond; sons-in-law, Adam Belair and James Pond; mother, Arlene Hopper; father and stepmother, Frederick S. and Barbara Hopper; siblings, Susan Hardy, Stephan Hopper, Scott Hopper, and Sherri Chagnon; grandsons, Benjamin Belair, Jonathan Belair and Jackson Pond; and numerous nieces and nephews.
